Ingrid's LunchBox, 2009 Madison Favorite!!

Thank you Isthmus readers! We have taken the bronze in the "Food Cart" category in The Isthmus' Annual Manual making us a 2009 Madison Favorite. It is our honor to be amongst two absolutely fantastic neighbors, Buraka and Jamerica.
Thanks again Madison, you all rock!

First Place in June issue of BonAppetit's Hot 10!

That's right!  We didn't just make the list, but got Top Billing!!  Thank you to Mr. Knowlton and BonAppetit, we consider it an honor.  The June 2008 print issue of BonAppetit Magazine features the "Hot 10" places for street food in the USA.  Sharing the top with Hamdingers in Charlottesville, VA and DessertTruck in NYC, 10 mobile food stands across the country are listed.  We think we want to try Krista Steinhauer and Adam Bork's FOOD SHARK in Texas first!

At the excellent Dane County Farmers' Market on the Square, Ingrid Rockwell puts farm-to-table into practice at her tiny trailer.  The menu includes Swedish meatless balls and fried egg sandwiches on cheddar-and-chive biscuits.

Thanks again for this great honor!

Here comes the sun: Looking for a taste of summer on the Library Mall

I hadn’t made a tour of this year’s carts since they rolled out in the spring, so there were some surprises facing me on the Mall, including a homespun cart called Ingrid’s Lunchbox, whose slogan is “dang-it I’m hungry.” All of which seemed almost exotic, given the bigger presence of pan-Asian and Latin carts surrounding the little heartland reserve. For $5 I got a portion of Ingrid’s Iowa chicken and corn pot pie – a heaping serving featuring chunks of chicken, corn, carrots and bacon sitting under a cornmeal crust. Almost as good and just as cheap: the dang-it that’s weird meatless meatballs, which might leave you wondering, “What’s the point?” The point is that vegetarians too can now enjoy their simulated tofu and veggie-soy-crumb balls, which are robust, chewy and swimming in a very enticing creamy dill sauce. They also come paired with mashed potatoes and green beans, so you can skip through a veritable vegetable garden (though skip the waterlogged beans altogether).
